Solving the North Korean Nuclear Puzzle

Chapter 3 -- An Overhead Tour: The Yongbyon Nuclear Site1

by David Albright and Corey Hinderstein

Figure III.5 A declassified U.S. Corona spy satellite photo shows the older section of the nuclear site as it appeared in March 1970. Visible are the IRT reactor, three old laboratory buildings, and one of the new laboratories (in figure III.4, only one of these old laboratory buildings remains). To the west of the old nuclear site is the civilian support area that consists of research facilities, stores, and other facilities necessary for the workers and their families. This area has also grown extensively over time (compare to figure III.3).
